Christian Benitez died on Sunday July 29th 2013 from respiratory failure.
He had been playing for his club El Jaish when he experienced severe stomach
pains and was taken to hospital in Qatar where he died a few hours later.
He played 58 times for Ecuador between 2005 and 2013. His first international
goal came in September 2006 against Peru. He was just 27 years old when he died.
