Gary REED - Canada - World Championsihip silver medal & 4th at the 2008 Olympics.

Gary is pictured above during the heats of the mens 800m at the 2008 Olympic Games

in Beijing. Reed - the 800m silver medallist at the previous years World Championships

in Osaka - went on to qualify for the final, finishing just outside the medals

in 4th place in a time of 1.44.94.

The race finish pictures above show Gary (428) crossing the finishing line neck and neck with Kenya's Alfred Kirwa Yego in the final

final of the mens 800m at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. Reed won the silver medal in a time of 1: 47.10,

agonisingly just 1 hundredth of a second behind Yego. The individual photos show Gary during the heats. A delighted Reed

later described his silver medal winning performance as the "greatest day of my life". He added: "When I was leading I slowed

the race down because I knew if the race was slow I would have better chances."

Gary Reed retired from competitive athletics on 13th. December 2010, at 29 years old. He retired as the 800-metre Canadian record holder,

and a six time Canadian 800m Champion : 2009, 2008, 2007, 2005, 2004, 2003. He competed at two Olympic Games (2004, 2008) and

five World Championships : 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009.
