Xavier CARTER - U.S.A. - 2nd fastest 200m run in history with 19.63 in July 2006 (result)

The pictures above show Xavier in full flow during the 200m at the Norwich Union Grand Prix in London on 28th July 2006. He finished in second place behind his compatriot Tyson Gay in a time of 19.98 secs. At the Super Grand Prix meeting in Lausanne on July 11th, Carter had produced a sensational performance to win in a time of 19.63, the second fastest 200m run in history. Only the legendary Michael Johnson, with his remarkable run of 19.32 at the 1996 Olympic Games, could better Xavier's performance. "Michael Johnson was a great runner and with this time, I know I'm right up there, " Carter said after the race. Earlier in the year Xavier won four titles at an NCAA meet, thus becoming the first athlete since Jesse Owens in 1936 to achieve such a feat. His victories came in the 100m, 400m, 4x100m and 4x400m. He was also the first athlete in the 86-year history of the NCAA Championships to ever achieve the 100m/400m double.
