Salwa Eid Naser in full stride during her heat of the women's 400 metres. She ran a casual 50.74
to win, but decided to step up a gear in her semi-final, winning in 49.79.
Shaunae Miller-Uibowon, the 2016 Olympic Champion, won hers in 49.66, just short of the season's best time
of 49.05, set by her in April. Little did anyone expect their clash in final to so sensational.
Shaurae, despite setting an area record of 48.37 - the sixth fastest time in history - lost !
Salwa won with a time of 48.41 seconds, the fifth fastest time ever. And some of those times set during
the 'drugs for all' era of a quarter of a century earlier (unproven but....).
On 30th June 2021, it was announced that Salwa Eid Naser had been banned
until February 2023 due to three whereabouts failures.
