Nadezhda is pictured above during the final of the women's Shot
Put at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. Ostapchuk, the defending
champion, looked to have secured the gold medal once again with her
first round effort of 20.04m. Sadly for Nadezhda, however, New Zealand's
Valerie Vili had other ideas and snatched the gold medal with her very
last put of the final. A terrific effort from Ostapchuk saw her improve
to 20.48m with the very last put of the competition but that left her
just 6cm back on Vili's effort of 20.54m.
