Yelena Romanova crosses the finish line to win the women's
3,000 metres in Barcelona.
Yelena Romanova was found dead of unknown causes on 29th. January 2007 at age 43
in her flat in Volgograd.
At the time of her death she was employed as athletics coach at a local sports school
and worked with members of the Russian athletic team.
"We do not know the exact cause of Yelena's death, but we are convinced that it is linked
to heart problems," a spokesman said, adding that high training loads could have affected her health.
