The pictures above show Aleksander during the final of the Discus at the 2006
European Championships in Gothenburg. He won the bronze medal - his second
at a major championship - with a throw of 66.14m. Lithuania's Virgilijus Alekna
won the gold and Estonia's Gerd Kanter the silver.
His personal best throw is 70.82m (232'3½"), set on 15 April 2006 in Denton, Texas.

A year earlier, at the Athens Olympics, Tammert won his first medal at a major championship
when winning bronze with a throw of 66.66m.
