Ten years after he won the silver medal in the event, Hagos Gebrhiwet was
still in contention over 5,000m at a World Championships. In June he had run
a P.B. of 12:41.73 in Oslo (=6th on the all-time list) and in his heat clocked
13:32.83 for second fastest qualifier.  But in Budapest he was unable to go
 sub 13:12.00 for a medal.
