Lelisa Desisa leads ther field at the start of the 2013 World Championship marathon in Moscow.

In his debut over the marathon Lelisa Desisa won the 2013 Dubai Marathon in a time of 2:04:45 hours.
Three months later he won the 2013 Boston Marathon in a time of 2:10:22.
Desisa was not hurt in the Boston Marathon bombings that occurred after his victory.
In 2018 he won the New York City marathon. 2hr 5min 59secs.
In 2019 he won the World Championship marathon in Doha 2hr 10min 40 secs.
