On 7th. October 2020 in a specially organised event in Valencia Letsenbet Gidey
broke the women's 5,000m world record with a time of 14:06.62 beating
Tirunesh Dibaba in 2008 record of 14:11.15.
At the same event Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei, clocked 26 minutes 11.00 seconds to
beat Kenenisa Bekele's 15-year-old 10,000m time by more than six seconds.
On 9th June 2021 Gidley she set a new 10,000m record herself of 29:01.03 just
two days after Sifan Hassan had beaten the previous record.
