2014 European men's steeplechase Final.   Zurich.


The photograph above is of  the final of the men's steeplechase with two laps

to go and shows France's Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad  (14 on his shorts) leading

the field. The Frenchman crossed the line first but was disqualified for removing

his vest and waving it as he finished !

The Gold Medal was thus awarded to Yoann Kowal - seen here jumping over the

water jump barrier - following a protest from the Spanish team. Their man crossed

the line in fourth place (not Sebastian Martos) and they took advantage of the

rules.   In football a yellow card would have been given and not a Red !
