An ecstatic Yohan is pictured above crossing the line to win gold in the 50km Walk at the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg. His time of 3: 41.39 was a new PB and, remarkably, took nearly 4 minutes off his previous best time. The Frenchman, who is currently studying oenology, the science of wine making, commented "Before the race, nobody really had me on the radar screen, I surprised everyone. Today I will enjoy a good wine!" .

Thierry Toutain's previous world mark, set in 2000, by more than five minutes.
