same height of 5.70m as the bronze medallist Denys Yurchenko but missed out on a
medal on the countback rule.

Danny is pictured above during the final of the men's Pole Vault at
the 2007 European Indoor Athletics Championships in Birmingham. He won
the gold medal on the countback rule after Denys Yurchenko and Bjorn
Otto also cleared the same height of 5.71m. Ecker, who is the son of the
two time Olympic gold medalist Heide Rosendahl, has suffered more than
his fair share of disappointments having finished in 4th or 5th place
at all of the major outdoor championships in which he is eligible to
compete. He has fared rather better on the indoor circuit, this gold
medal following on from bronzes at the 1998 Euro Indoors and the 1999
World Indoors.
