Franka Dietzsch is pictured above during the final of the womens Discus at
the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. Dietzsch won the gold medal with a
throw of 66.61m, thus becoming a three time World Champion having also
struck gold at the 1999 and 2005 Worlds. Franka has taken a particular
liking to the colour gold during her career - her other two medals at
major championships being the golds she won at the 1998 & 2006 Euro
Champs.
Dietzch launched the Discus 66.61m with her very first throw of
the final and that would prove to be the winning distance. She later
commented: "This is crazy since it is my third world title. I was the
second oldest in the field and beat all the young girls once again. My
coach told me to do it as I did in Helsinki in 2005. I had a very good
first throw there as well and won - so that is what I did again." .
