Rebecca LYNE - Great Britain & N.I. - 2006 European Championships 800m bronze medal.

The top right photo above shows the athletes at the bell during the final of the women's 800m at the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg. Becky (1261) can be seen well positioned in the pack alongside the Russians Svetlana Cherkasova (1585) and Svetlana Kyluka (1606). The bottom right photo shows the race for the line as Kyluka battles it out for gold with her compatriot Olga Kotlyarova (1611).

It was Kotlyarova who was to prevail whilst Lyne showed some Sheffield steel to grab the bronze medal ahead of the Ukrainian, Tatyana Petyluk. After the race she commented "I should be happy - if you had said at the beginning of the season that I would win a bronze at the European Championships then they would have put you in a mental asylum !".

"It's nice to have lifted British spirits a bit by getting a medal." .
