A delighted Cosimo is pictured above crossing the line to win gold
in the men's 3,000m at the 2007 European Indoor Athletics Championships
in Birmingham. Bouabdellah Tahri (239) won the silver and the
suitably named Spaniard Jesus Espana (red & yellow vest) the bronze.

Cosimo won the European Under 20 1500m Championship in 2001 and
in 2006 was the Italian 5,000m National Champion. In 2005 & 2006 he
was the Italian 3,000m Indoor National championship.
He died on 10th. June 2011, as a result of a motorbike accident in his native town
of Francavilla Fontana, in southern Italy. He had a wife and two sons.
He was just 29 years old.
