Bernard is pictured above at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. He finished agonisingly
close to the bronze medal, missing out to Morrocco's Ali Ezzine by just eight tenths of a second.
The following year Barmasai won his second bronze medal at the World Athletics
Championships - having previously won bronze in 1997 - and that would prove to be
his last medal on the track.
