fellow Kenyan Moses Kiptanui (the world record holder 8:02.08).
After the Olympic Games,
Keter beat Kiptanui again in Zürich, running his personal best 8.05.99.
Keter ran for several more seasons and won the IAAF Grand Prix 3000m steeplechase in 1997.
