Kipyegon Bett in the middle of the field of the men's 800 metres final in London
on their first lap. The nineteen year old, in his first season as senior, had earlier
in the season beaten the absent defending champion David Rudisha (in Shanghai)
to set a then personal best time of 1:44.70. He won his semi final in 1:45.02.
Kipyrgon Bett tested positive for EPO in 2018 and received a
four-year ban in November. Bett's period of ineligibility ended in August 2022,
but he struggled to return to a sport where he once commanded respect.
He died on 6th October 2024 aged 26.
