Luke is pictured above crossing the line to win gold in the Marathon
at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. Kibet's time of 2:15:59 was
the slowest ever winning time for the men's Marathon at the World
Championships and was no doubt due to the sweltering conditions that the
athletes had to compete in. It was his first medal at a major
championship. Kibet later commented "I felt comfortable despite the hot
weather. I know it is my eighth marathon and I am proud to win the gold
for my country. It has been a long time for Kenya." |
