Vivian CHERUIYOT - Kenya - 2007 World Championships 5000m silver (result)

The right hand photo above shows Vivian, arm raised in celebration, crossing the line in the silver medal position behind Ethiopia's Meseret Defar in the final of the womens 5000m at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. The bottom inset picture shows Cheruiyot (left of photo) celebrating with her compatriots Priscah Jepleting Cherono (right) and Sylvia Jebiwott Kibet (centre), who finished third and fourth respectively. The top inset picture shows the three medallists in the closing stages of the final, with Vivian left of photo, Chereno in the middle and Defar leading the way. The left hand photo is also during the final. It was the first medal that Cheruiyot had won at a major championship and she later commented: "I am so excited about my silver medal. These are my first world championships ... I was expecting second because Meseret is very strong, especially on the last lap."
