David FIEGEN - Luxembourg - 2006 European Championships 800m silver medal

The photo above shows David (636) lunging for the line to win the silver medal in the final of the men's 800m at the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg. The Dutchman Bram Som (out of shot) pipped Fiegen to the gold medal by just three hundredths of a second whilst Britain's Sam Ellis (403) won the bronze.

David's performance marked a historical day for Luxembourg at the European Athletics Championships as it was the first time that an athlete from the country had won a medal. Indeed, the last athlete from Luxembourg to reach a final at the Championships was Gerard Rasquin, also an 800m runner, who finished 6th way back in 1954 !
