The photo above shows David (636) lunging for the line to win the
silver medal in the final of the men's 800m at the 2006 European
Championships in Gothenburg. The Dutchman Bram Som (out of shot) pipped
Fiegen to the gold medal by just three hundredths of a second whilst
Britain's Sam Ellis (403) won the bronze.
David's performance marked a
historical day for Luxembourg at the European Athletics Championships as
it was the first time that an athlete from the country had won a medal.
Indeed, the last athlete from Luxembourg to reach a final at the
Championships was Gerard Rasquin, also an 800m runner, who finished 6th
way back in 1954 !
