Frankie FREDERICKS - Namibia - Fourth in the 200m at farewell 2004 Olympic Games.

Frankie is pictured above in full flow during the first semi-final of the 200m at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. He finished third in a time of 20.43, earning him a place in the final where he finished fourth with a time of 20.14. At 36 years of age this fine athlete had run his final race.

Afterwards Frankie said "I'm just a little bit emotional and a little sad really. Obviously I wanted to go out with a medal, but I just have to be happy with fourth". Earlier in the week, when confirming his plans to retire, Fredericks said: "This is it. The end of the 200m is the end of my career. I want to go home and spend time with my family."

His fantastic career saw him capture thirteen major medals and in any other era - without a certain Michael Johnson blocking his path - Frankie would surely have won more than the one Gold he won at the 1993 World Championships.
