Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the 2020 Olympic 1500m champion, leading Timothy Cheruiyot,
the 2019 World 1500m champion, in the 1500m at the Diamond League meeting
in Zurich. Timothy won this contest (3:31.37 to 3:31.45) but in Japan a few weeks
earlier Jakob was the winner. Still just 20 years old, it was his first
gold medal at one of the two Majors. Earlier in the year he had won two gold medals
at the European Indoor Champions in Poland and ended 2021 by winning the European
cross country championships in Dublin. On top of that, aside from his European 1500m
record in Tokyo, he also set a European 5,000m record of 12:48.45.
