in which she set a season best of 1:59.21. She then improved that with a
personal best in the actual final. A few days earlier she had finished 7th in the
final of the 1500m

The photograph of the women's 1,500 metres final could have been taken moments after the start.
In fact the field is on their fourth lap of a very, very slow race !
Champion Angelika Cichocka is on the extreme left of the photo, waiting for her moment to accelerate,
as indeed were most of the runners. So slow was her winning time that every runner in the two qualifying
heats (21 women - slowest 4:29.47) ran faster than her winning time in the final (4.33.00).
In Stockholm earlier in the year Cichocka ran a 4:03.25 for the distance (indoors).
