Mutaz Essa BARSHIM - Qatar - The hero of Doha 2019 was the man from Doha.

Doha born Mutaz Essa Barshim leaps with joy as he celebrates clearing 2.37 metres

to win the men's high jump final. In front of the biggest crowd of the Championships.

The local hero had to bear the expectations of a nation, but left a hero. With three

jumpers all clearing 2.35m first time (two of them for the very first time) the pressure

was immense, but Barshim stood tall and cleared the bar at 2.37 first time. His two Russian,

rivals (competing as Authorised Neutral Athletes) each tried three times and failed three times.

The Stadium erupted once Barshim was assured of victory.
