Samples taken during the 2012 Olympics were retested in 2016.
On 27th October 2016 it was announced that Starodubtsev tested positive
for dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol) and his results from the
2012 Olympics were disqualified.

at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Starodubtsev cleared
the same height of 5.70m as the bronze medallist Denys Yurchenko
but disappointingly missed out on a bronze medal on the countback rule.
