Ilya Ivanyuk takes off on his way to the bronze medal position thanks
to a personal best of 2.35m. He cleared that height with his first
attempt, to move into joint second place with Mutaz Essa Basham, the
defending champion. Both had failed twice at 2.33m having up to then
cleared four lower height first time. Akimento at the time was in the
gold medal position. Mutaz got over 2.27m first time and the two Russians
(A.N.A. men for this competition) both tried and failed three times.
