Lyudmila is pictured above during the final of the women's Long Jump
at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. Kolchanova, the gold medallist
at the 2006 European Championships, won the silver medal behind her
compatriot Tatyana Lebedeva with Tatyana Kotova making it a memorable
event for the Russians by taking the bronze medal, her leap of 6.90m
just 2cm behind Lyudmila.
Kolchanova, who won the silver medal with her
final effort, later commented: "I must be satisfied with silver, it
means more for me than the European title. On the other hand I know I
could jump more. During the qualification I felt lot better. Today I had
small problems with my run-up and was also somehow tired and heavy.
Fortunately my strong will in last round helped me to get the silver."
