at the previous years World Championships in Osaka, had to settle for
the bronze medal on this occasion, her time of 9.07.64 a seasons best

Volkova is pictured above during the final of the womens 3000m
Steeplechase at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. Volkova, the
silver medallist at the previous World Champs in Helsinki, this time
went one better, striking gold with a new Championship Record time of
9.06.57. Volkova later commented: "I knew 600m before the finish I will
get it. I did not have any tactics, just running. I was not thinking
about any times and new best is great bonus. The World record is not for
me an issue for the moment, for sure not this season. Maybe in future." . |
