In 2002 Yelana won the European Indoor title. She failed to retain her World Championship
in 2003 when finishing fourth in Paris and she placed 5th at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.
However, in 2005 she tested positive for a banned substance in an out-of-competition test.
She was suspended by the IAAF from October 2005 to October 2006.
