Evgeny (Yevgeny ?) is pictured above during the final of the men's Pole Vault at the
2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Lukyanenko pushed Steve Hooker all
the way for the gold medal but it was the Australian who prevailed when
he cleared 5.90m with his third and final attempt. Evgeny failed at that
height with all three attempts, but his clearance of 5.85m saw him
comfortably win the silver medal.
Earlier in the year he won the World Indoor title, in Valencia, with a leap of 5.90m
