at the 2006 European Championships, went on to qualify for the final,

The main photo above shows the closing stages of the men's 5000m
final at the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg. Jesus Espana and
Mohammed Farah are the two athletes battling it out for gold and silver
whilst in the background Juan Carlos can be seen trailing Turkey's
Halil Akkas. Higuero managed to overhaul the Turk just before the line
to grab his second bronze medal of the championship (see previous page
for details of his 1500m bronze), his time of 13: 46.48 just 5
hundredths of a second ahead of Halil. |

Juan Carlos is pictured above (245) leading the field in the final of
the men's 1500m at the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg. He
went on to win the bronze medal in a time of 3: 39.62, behind France's
Mehdi Baala (blue vest, number 337) and Ukraine's Ivan Heshko (behind
Baala, number 960). The other athlete in shot is Higuero's compatriot
Arturo Casado who finished in fourth place. Juan Carlos later added a
second bronze medal when finishing third in the 5000m. |
