Susanthika JAYASINGHE - Sri Lanka - World Championships 200m bronze & silver medals.

The main photo above shows a delighted Susanthika celebrating shortly after winning a bronze medal in the final of the women's 200m at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. The inset picture shows the closing few metres of the race, with Jayasinghe (second from the left) pipping the USA's Torri Edwards (out of shot) to the bronze by just two hundredths of a second in a time of 22.63 secs.

The brilliant young American Allyson Felix (far right) won the gold in a time of 21.81, with Jamaica's Veronica Campbell (second right) taking silver. The other athletes in shot are Sanya Richards (centre) and LaShauntea Moore (far left) who finished 5th and 7th respectively. It was the second occasion that Susanthika had won a 200m bronze medal at the World Championships, her previous success coming no less than a decade earlier in Athens.

Susanthika is pictured above (second left) during the 200m final at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She took the bronze medal behind Marion Jones (3357) and Pauline Davis-Thompson (far right). However, Jones was later stripped of her gold medal after she admitted using drugs and, after much deliberation, Jayasinghe was finally moved up to the silver medal position in December 2009.
