as he won the bronze medal behind Abdi Bile & Jose Luis Gonzalez who are

both towards the back of the pack in the above photo.

Jim Spivey failed to qualify for the 1988 Summer Olympics (finishing fourth at the US trials in Indianapolis)

in the same season in which he set his personal best over 1500 m (3:31.01, Koblenz).

Over the course of his professional career, Jim Spivey won six U.S. national titles,

including the 1982 USA Indoor Mile and the Olympic Trials 1500 meters in 1984 and 1992.

Spivey was a three-time Olympian (1984, 1992 and 1996), his highest Olympic finish

coming in the 1984 Los Angeles Games 1500 meter final when he finished fifth.
