Denys is pictured above during the final of the men's Pole Vault at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Yurchenko suffered the misfortune of being forced to pull out of the final due to a leg injury but his clearance of 5.70m was still sufficient to claim the bronze medal. Derek Miles, Dmitry Starodubtsev and Danny Ecker all failed to clear either 5.75m or 5.80m and it was Yurchenko who claimed third place on the countback rule.

after clearing the same height (5.71m) as Danny Ecker and Bjorn Otto, who won gold and bronze respectively.
