Phillip HUGHES - Australia - Cricket Test Record for Australia.

Phillip Hughes is pictured above playing for Australia at Trent Bridge during the first  'Ashes' Test match

of the 2013 summer series. It was a memorable match for Phillip.  In the first innings with Australia on

117 for 9 he was joined at the crease by debutant Ashton Agar, their nineteen year old spin bowler.

Just over two hours batting time later (and with Hughes not out 81) the pair had set a World Record

partnership for the tenth wicket, in Test cricket, of 163.   Agar was out on 98 and the total was by then

280. Alas, for Australia they lost the match on the afternoon of the fifth day by just 14 runs. He is pictured

above during that record breaking partnership.

Phillip Hughes died on 27th November 2014 in a St Vincent's Hospital Sydney hospital two days after being hit

on the back of his head after being struck by a bouncer. Hughes, batting for South Australia, collapsed after being hit

by a ball from Sean Abbott during a Sheffield Shield game against New South Wales at Sydney Cricket Ground..

He died as a result of "vertebral artery dissection". The artery had been compressed, causing it to split

and leading to a "massive bleed" into his brain.
