The pictures above show Matthew during his fine spell of 15-3-70-3 in
the 4th Test against Australia at Trent Bridge, Nottingham in August
2005. Hoggard also weighed in with 2 wickets in the 2nd innings and then
chipped in with a vital 8 not out to see England over the winning line
in partnership with Ashley Giles (see bottom right inset picture, the
two heroes of the hour celebrating after Giles had scored the winning
runs). That put England 2-1 up in the series and they held on to that
lead thanks to a draw in the 5th and final Test at the Oval in yet
another nerve jangling encounter.
