Ryan Sidebottom is pictured above during his fine spell of 12-3-48-3
in the 3rd Test against the West Indies at Old Trafford, Manchester in
June 2007. Sidebottom's efforts helped England restrict the Windies to
229 in reply to their 370 and when England scored 313 second time around
the result seemed a formality.
Things nearly didn't quite pan out that
way, though, with the West Indies - Shiv Chanderpaul once again starring
with the bat - putting in a sterling performance before falling 60 runs
short of their victory target at 394 all out. The series marked an
impressive return to the Test arena for Ryan, who had suffered a rather
disappointing wicketless debut against Pakistan in his only previous
Test match appearance some six years earlier.
It also moved him out of
the 'One Test wonders' club, of which his father Arnie is a member!
