Marciano Van Homoet is pictured during the 1-0 defeat against Cardiff
City in the FA Cup semi-final.
It was the first time that Barnsley had reached the semi-finals of the famous
competition since they won the trophy way back in 1912.
He had always been known as Marciano Bruma in the Netherlands, after dropping his father’s
surname as a young child when his parents split up. But the FA insisted he should use the name
on his birth certificate, so in England he played as Marciano van Homoet.
