Adrian began his career as a youth player with Preston North End

before moving to Australia without making a first-team appearance.

In Australia, he played for South Coast United, St George and Safeway United

and was called up to the Australia national soccer team after two years in the country.

Between 1969 and 1977 he played 36 games for Australia scoring 6 goals.

He started in Australia's three World Cup games at the 1974 Final in West Germany.
