On 12th June, 2021 while playing in Denmark's opening Euro 2020 group stage match against Finland,
Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest. He was later fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator device,
a decision described by team doctor Morten Boesen as "necessary due to rhythm disturbances" following
his cardiac arrest. On 29th October 2021, it was announced that Eriksen was not permitted to play in the
Serie A due to the presence the cardioverter-defibrillator.
He returned to international football on 26th March 2022, having played for Brentford for three months.
