Christie suffered a spinal injury in training and following medical advice, retired from professional football
on 29 January 2009. Whilst at Boro he suffered two broken legs and a fractured foot.
Following his retirement, Christie took up a new career working as a salesman for an Aston Martin
dealership in Houghton-le-Spring, Tyne and Wear.
