Stan Cummins moved to Sunderland from local rivals Middlesbrough in
November 1979 for a fee of £300, 000. He enjoyed a fine first season
with the Rokerites, netting 12 goals in 26 league games, but thereafter
he found goals harder to come by. He moved on to Crystal Palace in the
summer of 1983 but by October 1984 he was back on Wearside. Sadly Stan
was unable to find his shooting boots during his second spell with the
club and left at the end of the season having failed to score in 17
league games. He is pictured above during the 3-2 defeat against
Birmingham City on 27th December 1980.
