He died on 6th February at Cerne Abbas, Dorset. aged 69 of cancer. He was the cousin of Mike Biggar.
Alastair was a member of the legendary 1971 Lions party which toured Australia and New Zealand
and which remains, the only Lions squad to win a Test series in New Zealand (at the time of his death).
