Kevin BOWRING - Wales - Legendary Rugby Union coach

Kevin Bowring pictured above playing for The Barbarians. He played for them

on three occasions.

 

In 1977 he joined London Welsh and in the nine years Kevin played for the club he appeared

in 268 games, captaining the club for three seasons. One of the highlights of Kevin's long career

at Welsh was in the side Captained by his long time friend and teammate,

Clive Rees when London Welsh played Bath at Twickenham in the 1985 John Player Cup Final

in which Welsh lost to a Bath side boasting nine England Internationals 24 - 15.

 

His main acheivements were as a coach and in 1995 became Wales' first full-time professional

coach. He led Wales in 29 matches with 15 wins and 14 defeats before leaving the role in 1998.

In September 2001 English rugby's governing body the Rugby Football Union (RFU) appointed

Bowring as its head of elite coach development.

Bowring stayed at the RFU until his retirement in 2016.
