Djabir SAID-GUERNI - Algeria - 5th in the 800m at 2005 World Championship.

Djabir (14) is pictured above during the mens 800m final at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki.

Said-Guerni was unable to replicate his achievement of two years earlier in Paris when he took the title

and had to settle for a fifth place finish in a time of 1: 45.31. The medals went, in order, to

Rashid Ramzi (113), Yuriy Borzakovskiy (803) and William Yiampoy (573). The other athlete in shot

is Kenya's Wilfred Bungei who finished fourth. The inset picture shows Djabir during the heats.

Djabir SAID-GUERNI announced his retirement on 6 May 2007, following injury problems.

His personal best time was 1:43.09 minutes set in September 1999 in Brussels.
