By the smallest margin imaginable (six points) Ashton Eaton improved his own World record
and at the same time retained his World Championship decathlon title, in Beijing.
Leading throughout the event, the 2012 Olympic champion finished with 9045 points,
improving his record 9039 points set on 23rd. June 2012 at Eugen, Oregan. The photo above
is of him celebrating his javelin throw on the second day, a season best of 63.63m.
It was the only World Record at the Chmpionships (the 15th to take place since the first in 1983).
His reward was a cheque for $100,000. (see below)
