The sequence of pictures above shows Jana Pittman overhauling the Russian favourite Yuliya Pechonika on her way to the 400m Hurdles Gold at the 2003 World Athletics Championships in Paris. Pechonika had raced over the first 200m at a suicidal pace and Pittman took full advantage as she tied up in the latter stages the Australian recording a new personal best of 53.22 to take the Gold ahead of Sandra Glover with Pechonika in third.
