Paul is pictured above at the 2006 Grand Prix Final in Stuttgart. He finished in first place
in the Pole Vault, beating Toby Stevenson and Tim Lobinger on the countback rule after all
three men had cleared the same height of 5.82m. Earlier in his career Burgess had won
silver medals at the 1998 and 2002 Commonwealth Games.
